School, we teach you how to take good nutrition home to your own kitchen.
The Mettler Cooking School offers
courses for a wide variety of populations, from those interested in weight loss
to those who simply want to explore the creative nature of whole grain bread
baking. The array of classes share a common theme of food as the key to better
health and meals as an opportunity for sharing and gathering with our families
and friends. The classes are designed to demystify and simplify healthy cooking
by offering time-saving tips, up-to-date nutrition education, information on
healthy food preparation, and lots of easy and adaptable recipes that take little
time to prepare. Mettler Cooking School is for people of all ages and abilities
who believe that there is a significant connection between food and better health.

Class Description
Some classes may vary from month to
month. However, our theme remains the same. We want to show you how you can
eat healthy…simply! Some of our signature classes are described below.
Food Coach
It’s personal training in Mettler’s
teaching kitchen! This four week, hands-on course is designed to turn beginner
cooks in to talented, health-conscious cooks. Participants learn practical cooking
and baking techniques in order to prepare healthy family-oriented foods. Learn
what to stock in your pantry, refrigerator, and freezer and how to create menus
designed to help you reach your own nutritional goals. The course is taught
by Mary Knight, Mettler University Coordinator, who is certified in Healthy
Cooking Techniques through the Culinary Institute of America.
What You'll Receive:

- Demonstrations of cooking and baking techniques for poultry and fish, beans
and legumes, whole grains and pasta, fruits and vegetables, and dessert!
- Hands-on format in a smaller class

Healthy Cooking Techniques
Watching your waistline? Current participants
in Mettler’s Lifestyle Management or Nutrition courses can learn basic
low fat healthy food preparation techniques for poultry and fish, breads, vegetables,
and grains. Great starting point for the health conscious cooks! Course is taught
by Mary Knight, Mettler University Coordinator, who is certified in Healthy
Cooking Techniques through the Culinary Institute of America.

Kids Cook
What a better way to learn than by
doing! Kids Cook participants learn to take health into their own hands by making
wholesome snacks and meals using healthy ingredients and a big dose of fun!
Participants will also learn how to choose healthier foods when eating out.
Children age 5-11 are involved in preparation of healthy foods, discussions,
and sampling. Children under 5 should be accompanied by a parent.
Description: Kids
ages 5-11 get messy learning to prepare healthy foods using ingredients such
as fruits, vegetables, dairy, and grains.

Great Grains-Whole Grain Bread Making
The Great Grains class teaches cooks
of all experience levels to include whole grains in their diet by learning the
age-old art of bread making. Participants use a variety of high-nutrient grains
to create a number of homemade whole grain breads. This hands-on class is excellent
for those who want to learn by doing. Course is taught by Bob Halperin, a 36
year veteran of whole grain bread making.

Additional Services
"Fit and Fun" Birthday
Parties
Children are guided by a birthday leader in mixing their own personal birthday
cakes. While cakes are baking and cooling, the children enjoy fun games and
exercises with Fit Force personnel. When finished, each child has their own
cake ready to decorate and EAT! The birthday child then opens presents. Total
time: 1 ½ hours. Parties are typically held on Saturdays at either 10:30am
or 1pm. There is a 6 child minimum and 12 child maximum, including birthday
boy/girl. Cost is $10 per child.
The following items are provided by Mettler:
- Individual cakes and cake decorations
- Candles for birthday child’s cake
- All paperware (plates, napkin, cups, utensils)
- Drink (each child gets a glass of 100% Juice)
- Decorations (in the form of balloons on tables and colorful tablecloth on
gift table)
