The Mettler Release
Take Time to Take Care This Spring

Greetings!

Even if it doesn't feel like it, spring is just around the corner.

With the change in seasons, it's the perfect time to modify your diet and head outdoors. Adding fruits and vegetables to your diet is a great way to get extra vitamins and nutrients while preventing cancer.

You'll also need to pay more attention to your skincare. You should have been applying sunscreen all winter; but, as you head outdoors, you'll need more protection.

We also have new employees for you to meet and new offerings that
we hope you'll be able to benefit from in the coming months.

We hope you take advantage of this time to work on your goal of achieving Whole Life Fitness!

Take Care of Your Skin This Spring
Take Care of Your Skin This Spring
It's not quite summer, but that doesn't mean you should neglect your skin. Ultraviolet rays can still damage your skin, especially if you compete in outdoor sports.

Winter sports like snowboarding and snow skiing are especially dangerous. Ultraviolet rays strike your face directly. Additionally, once the rays hit the snow, they bounce off of it to hit your face. That way, you're getting damage from the sun twice.

You'll also get sun damage during your first outdoor workouts of the spring. And don't forget to protect your children's skin from the sun.

To keep your skin healthy:
  • Put enough on. Each person should put on a handful of SPF 30 sunscreen every day.

  • Apply it correctly. Sunscreen should be applied to clean, dry skin 30 minutes before exposure to the sun.

  • Reapply. Perspiration, exercise, swimming, and towel-drying remove sun creams from the skin.

  • Use it every day. This will limit the chances of developing dry leathery skin, wrinkles, mottling, and other signs of premature aging and skin cancer.

  • Use a "broad spectrum" sunscreen. Make sure it has a sun protection factor of at least 15 to protect against harmful UVA and UVB rays.
    March is National Nutrition Month
March is National Nutrition Month®, a nutrition education and information campaign, that is sponsored annually by the American Dietetic Association.

The campaign encourages people to develop healthy eating patterns.
This year's theme is "Nutrition From the Ground Up" with a focus on encouraging people to eat more fruits and vegetables. Diets rich in fruits and vegetables may reduce the risk of some types of cancer and other chronic diseases.

Here are some simple tips to add more fruits and vegetables into your day:
  • Add spinach, onions, peppers, mushrooms, and other vegetables into your omelet.

  • Toss some cut up bananas, peaches, or strawberries into your cereal.

  • Grab an apple as a mid-morning snack.

  • Mix cut up vegetables into your favorite broth-based soups, or add them to your sandwich.
Remember that when choosing fruit, whole fruit has more nutritional value than fruit juice. Additionally, fresh fruit has more value than dried fruit.

If you need some additional help revamping your diet, contact Member Services and set up an appointment with our nutritionist.

of the Month
Use prebagged baby spinach everywhere. It can be the "lettuce" on your sandwich. You can also added it to soups, pastas, and salads. Spinach is filled with calcium, folic acid, vitamin K and iron. It's also rich in vitamin C, fiber and carotenoids.
